The World Lurched

Last week I tossed all structure aside for a couple of days and did nothing just to see what would happen.

The answer: Nothing much.

Today, I'm thinking maybe that's the answer--nothing much happens when structure is abandoned. Or, maybe, that's what it took to release whatever is evolving personally from the churn created by Covid-19. The virus is bigger than all of us. The virus controls humanity. Controls me.

What was before is not now, and the future is only speculation looking into pretty crystal balls. If the virus owns the world, what do I have? Well, Covid hasn't gotten me yet. Maybe, maybe not.

Hmmm. What do I control? Really? Well, I can brush my teeth. I can wash my hands. I can blog.

So, I'll start there.

Weeks have slid by. Thank you, for taking one more peek. I'll begin with an installment.

____

At the time of the last posting in Mid-March, deep concerns for well over two weeks had consumed our families' attention. Great-Grandson Dimetrios lay in a medically induced coma in an ICU bed at Salt Lake City's Children's Hospital while COVID-19 surged across the land. His infection manifested similarly but came from a MRSA pneumonia that had overtaken his lungs and young system. Once more, he was extremely ill, worse than he'd been in the late fall.

The helicopter that transported Dimetrios from the Ogden hospital to Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City by the university. Beginning of March.

About the end of the third week he began to rally.

And even could pop a few bubbles.

And enjoy Grandma Valerie and Grandpa Tim.
The family took turns at the hospital. The restrictions began to intensify with the Coronavirus concerns. He was moved to a regular room for about two more weeks as his lungs made progress clearing infection.

At the end of March, Demetrios came home.

Home in his treatment vest that stimulates lungs, helping clear fluids.
And trampoline time!

Leaping forward to today. Dimetrios' sixteenth birthday celebration took place.

The whole family was enjoying outdoors when three Police cars came slowly by and blared their sirens to say a special Happy Birthday!

It must be time for the cake and candles.

The family has nursing help.

Jeff and Elijah.

Kingston and the cake.

Dimetrios made it through so much, not to mention his loved ones coming through intense anxiety and strain to finally experience relief. What happened to him is profoundly similar to so many who now or who have been coping with our terrible pandemic illnesses. Hundreds of thousands on our beautiful blue planet have been just as ill. So many are lost.

And everywhere, everything shut down. The world lurched.

There is more to post that will catch up the past weeks but I'll pause here and go to bed. I'll be back soon.

Please, take care of yourselves and each other. Be kind. Be well.

From Wendy.
