Fanfare for the Common Man

What better way to begin Memorial Day than to have heard this short segment sent this morning from Philadelphia Youth Orchestra's early season concert--from Aaron Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man. Little did I realize sitting in the audience then, that months later it would bring me to tears.

With thanks to PYO: Your music shows me the depth of appreciation I feel for all who are helping us through these rough pandemic times.

My Distance Learning Lesson: While feeling more and more anxious for Dimetrios and family, the spread of the Coronavirus was also taking hold across the country. Anxious and torn at first on whether to go to Utah, or stay; I stayed.  Not only am I one of those old persons (with some high-risk pre-existings), what was I thinking! Travel anyhow?! Did I want to become a vector for the accursed pathogen to hitch a ride?

In lieu, I got busy researching reliable, cogent, useful information on both the MRSA and COVID-19 pathogens, disinfecting, how-tos, procedures, etc., sharing all with them via text and email. And, right before everything began selling out, I was able to score a big amazon shipment to them with all the supplies they'd need which I hoped could alleviate a portion of the strain they were experiencing during those many weeks of vigil, worry and doubt.

New ways. Different times.

The Next Installment: To add to whats and hows and wheres, etc., of these pandemic weeks.

What better place to start than the masks...

Early on, Valerie got started making masks by hand over in Utah (their home is in NM). She and Tim stayed in Utah during Dimetrios' hospitalization and recovery. They all were prepping the house, too, for both MRSA eradication, as well as, the Coronavirus.

You can tell, too, that Valerie is no stranger to quilting.

Jeff modeling one of Valerie's early masks. Kingston helping.
Fly Eagles Fly!

Then, she bought a used sewing machine and got it rolling...

I got out my new machine and started in, too...

No elastic left anywhere. The strings take the longest to make.

Who are you?

Whew! What a mess.
Ready for shopping...
Sandy...

Gloria...

Carol...
Janie...
Hey, COVID-19...

...Kiss My Grits!

The next installment coming to you soon.
