The news of my extremely ill niece Paula began to take a new turn a couple of days ago when tests began to show the pneumonia was cleared from her lungs and the collateral sepsis was no longer showing up anywhere else. The medical teams began slowly bringing her out of sedation to begin the process of weaning her breathing from ventilation to breathing on her own. Then, it was astonishing to see her emerge from the comatose woman on life support to fill out her personality and ask what day is it? She was able to be moved from ICU to a medical ward for physical therapies and further observations to make sure she doesn't become acute again. Recovery is going to be a long, long road but she is in good spirits.
I can't help but be profoundly grateful for so many good wishes and prayers that have been said on her behalf by so many kind people. That had to have been a factor bringing to bear so many avenues of healing arts in the right place and time for her to actually survive this illness despite the depth to which it plunged her.
Waiting room activity doesn't require piles of dog-eared magazines anymore...

Sandy and Jeanenne are doing what everyone else in the waiting area are doing. Including me who is taking the picture. |
 |
It helped to take a picture of the row in the tangled underground parking so I could find where I parked Jeanenne's car. Another good reason for a smart phone besides supplanting magazines. |
Sunday, many of the Clarks were at church...

My dear friends Gloria and Joseph, who were coming to visit me in PA at approximately the same time I flew here to St. Louis on my emergency visit, decided to go ahead and visit eastern Pennsylvania anyway. They are making a road trip out of it and I am enjoying their adventures that Gloria is sharing with me via iPhone. (Yes, that smart item again.)

Their first night was here. |

And I love this picture of the two of them. |
Over in Colorado, we've been hearing from Keoni. His iPhone sent us news he has four jobs--1. violinist, 2. violist, 3. usher, and 4. parking lot attendant...

Keoni's selfie announcing the fourth job. |

Keoni had a struggle flying to Denver with both the violin and viola. A whole extra seat purchased and United still wanted him to check one instrument at the gate. After extended, assertive conversation, Keoni resolved their small print ban by strapping the two instuments together with his backpack strap and then seat-belted them into the purchased extra seat. Bah humbug! on United Airlines. |
 |
Keoni says the whole town of Aspen is like La Encantada Mall in Tucson. For those of us non-elite shoppers that is Tucson's upscale mecca for stimulating the economy. |
We wish Keoni a wonderful summertime in the Rockies and look forward to hearing more from him about his adventures there.
One afternoon Jeanenne and I had a little time and together started an art session on her big kitchen island.

My glass is half full. |

Larry. Yes, that's his smart phone perched on the couch pillows. |
