Tuesday: Pouring on the Miles

Should you be in Carrizozo, NM, don't let the exterior of the very economical Four Winds Motel discourage you. It is really well remodeled inside and very comfortable. The bed cover was a hand-made quilt!

Today was about getting the miles in with little stopping since the start was late after a long, sound sleep.

Some of the high-lonesome New Mexico towns that remain along US 54 are partial ghost towns, commerce having moved away to the Interstates. A couple of them were sort of eerie. Maybe it was because they're not far enough away from Roswell. I put on my aluminum foil hat just in case.

A meager selection of snaps from my pony's back...

Eastern New Mexico.

If you identify the black strip in the background that went on for a few miles near Dalhart, Texas, you'll know it smelled a lot. Because that's what it was--lots. Feed lots.

More panhandle excitement.
Made it to Greensburg, Kansas, within a day's sprint to O'Fallon, Missouri, when I gave up the day's drive. Didn't even stop at the Dorothy Museum along the way though it did sort of beckon.
